Stone Update #014 | Unwilling to Hide
“Stone Updates” is my ongoing, unfiltered journal as I learn electronic music from absolute scratch. Expect messy experiments, rookie mistakes, tiny wins, and lots of self-deprecating humor as I figure out Ableton one chaotic button press at a time.

My Side Quest in Music, Creativity, and Permission to Be a Rookie Again
Learn More About Adam StoneUpdate:
Hey, it's been a long time, or at least it feels like it's been a long time. In all actuality, it's been traveling the country, working non-stop with basketball, and it's been consuming every waking moment of my life. In fact, it's been blending so much into my free time, there's been very little room for anything else. However, on the latest trip, I did manage to carve out some time in the FBO, on the buses, in the air, and in the hotel room to finally complete a song that I've been working on for some time now.
So, if you're a long-time listener to the Adam Stone Project, then you already know the real deal about me and my music: it's not good, it's not ready for the main stage... yet. But it is real, it is raw, it is full of mistakes, it is full of imperfect decisions, it is full of muddy mixes, it is full of imperfect transitions, it is full of moments that could be mixed and mastered much better than they are now.
So, the real question is: is there more power in hiding these mistakes, or is there more power in putting it out there in its imperfect, unpolished, honest state?
My philosophy is simple: Share the work, be vulnerable, document the process, put your projects out there as though you're proud of them, warts and all, because that's the only way you're going to get better, that's the only way your music is going to get better, and you can't do that by waiting around for everything to be perfect, you can't do that by running away from your ideas that make you uncomfortable, or putting your projects on a shelf because they're uncomfortable to share.
So, I've titled this new piece of music Lifeline. It's a fun mix, and I've really been enjoying the vocals that I've been working with. I've also pushed the length of this piece of music to something a little more concise than I've been used to creating. I didn't even bother to pay attention to the clock while I worked, but I believe this piece of music comes in at a length of under three minutes. This piece of music wasn't meant to be something that would require a lot of intro and outro, or a lot of mixing and deejaying, but something that can simply be listened to and then moved on from.

This piece of music is another rep, another lesson, another step forward in the process, and I hope that you enjoy it. I hope that you like this piece of music, but I hope that you see what can happen when you're unwilling to hide and unwilling to create in public.

This track is another rep. Another lesson. Another step forward in the process.
