Stone Update #010 Hitting the Wall
“Stone Updates” is my ongoing, unfiltered journal as I learn electronic music from absolute scratch. Expect messy experiments, rookie mistakes, tiny wins, and lots of self-deprecating humor as I figure out Ableton one chaotic button press at a time.

My Side Quest in Music, Creativity, and Permission to Be a Rookie Again

I will be honest. I am stuck. Really stuck.
I have been working on this track for close to two weeks and I genuinely do not know which way is up anymore. The melody and harmony feel directionless, and every time I try to imagine vocals in the mix, they feel completely irrelevant. The percussion is the only part that feels solid right now, and that is not enough to carry a song.
I have considered stripping the entire thing down and rebuilding it with a simpler idea. Fewer layers. Less ambition. Something cleaner and more intentional. The frustrating part is that I have been actively working on it, yet it feels like it is going nowhere.
This is the first real roadblock of the journey. The last few tracks were fun. This one feels like work. Maybe that means I am stretching myself.
Maybe I am trying to live up to something that does not exist yet. I do not know.
What I do know is that I am not quitting on it. I will keep exploring this week while we travel to Texas and see if I can bring some kind of conclusion to an otherwise stagnant track. Even this feels like part of the process.
